Google’s effort to scan millions books for giant library books online at Google Books have received another obstacle. The photographers in United States have sued Google at U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York.

American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP), an illustrator and graphic design group, consider Google’s copyright infringement. For photos and illustrations in the book are legally protected their creations.

“Just be justified if someone uses what you create, you then get paid,” said James McGuire, the agency legal counsel, as quoted from the Telegraph, Thursday (08/04/2010).

Victor Perlman of ASMP said many creations photos and illustrations in books are targeted by Google. However, Google does not ask for permission on the owner.

Responding to this lawsuit, Google seems to not feel intimidated. They believed themselves already complied with applicable law.

“We believe that Google Books has complied with international copyright law in full. Google Books is an effort to create all the knowledge in books searchable online,” Google spokesman said.
